The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is hosting a one-day conference, entitled “Shakespeare: A Celebration”, 29 March 2004, on the occasion of the British author’s birth four centuries ago.
Professor Kiernan Ryan, Professor of English at Royal Holloway, University of London, will give an opening lecture under the title “Global Shakespeare: the Politics of Appropriation”. Professor Catherine Belsey, Distinguished Research Professor at Cardiff University is discussing “Why Shakespeare?” and Professor Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, will present “Shakespeare: A Perspective from Other Cultures”. The last 45 minutes are dedicated for closing remarks.
