The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex-Med) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing an academic conference, Med Voices Closing Conference: Turning Back to the Mediterranean. The principal theme and purpose of this gathering will be to explore the challenge of sharing space and living together in Mediterranean cities and the possible ways in which the work of Mediterranean Voices might continue to contribute to that challenge.
This closing conference will include workshops, seminars and lectures about the project and the experience of each country. An exhibition will also accompany the conference, in which all the products of the project will be revealed such as books, films, and galleries. Alex-Med will share in the exhibition by presenting photographs of the past event, “Shared Spaces in Times of Crises”.
The exhibition, held concurrently with the conference, was initiated by the London Metropolitan University along with institutions in twelve cities around the Mediterranean working to collect the voices, stories, pictures and memorablia of their residents. The Alex-Med Center documented the oral heritage of Alexandria, concentrating on the old cosmopolitan areas of the city.
