The BA Center for Islamic Civilizations Studies is organizing a lecture entitled “The Evolution of the Urban and Architectural Character in Egypt in the Late 19th and 20th Centuries”, delivered by Dr. Ahmed Sedky, Expert of Architectural and Urban Heritage. It will be held on Thursday, 11 May 2023, at 1:00 pm, in the Auditorium Hall, BA Main Building.

The lecture will tackle the development of the traditional and distinctive urbanism of Egyptian cities, which remained unchanged for many centuries, until a comprehensive institutional change was implemented by Muhammad Ali Pasha, which was reflected on the shape of cities, methods of urbanization and architecture, and the lifestyle in Egypt. These aspects will be traced and reviewed in the lecture by providing different examples of Egypt's main cities during one of the most influential periods in the country’s modern history.
