Exhibition: Lines of Peace

Alexandria, 22 September 2005—The Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing an exhibition entitled "Lines of Peace", 25 September – 25 October 2005, which will display the works of the eminent caricaturists, Mustafa Hussein from Egypt and Jean Plantu from France.
The exhibition aims to promote the values of peace through caricature, an art where images speak directly to the emotions, unlike words which speak to a person’s mind.
Artist Mustafa Hussein received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Painting Section, year 1959, and began working in the press since 1953 publishing his caricatures in several Egyptian newspapers and magazines such as Hawwaa, Al Masaa, Al Mussawar and Al Akhbar, as well as contributing many drawings for children’s books in Egypt and the Arab world. His works were also published in the Russian magazine, Pravda. Mustafa Hussein achieved many awards and certificates and was elected as the President of the International Jury Committee for Children’s Film in 2001.
Jean Plantu joined the Ecole de Saint-Luc in Bruxelles at the age of 20 to study drawing and a year later the French newspaper Le Monde published his first drawing dealing with the Vietnam War. In 2002, Plantu celebrated the publishing of 15,000 of his drawings, as well as his 30 years of working with Le Monde.
