5th Science Centers World Congress, videoconference with keynote speaker Ms. Jenniffer Corriero

The PSC is organizing a videoconference discussion webcasted from the 5th Science Centers World Congress (5SCWC), at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Monday, 16 June 2008, at 5:30 PM. The videoconference will take place in the 3rd Floor Floating Room at the BA, with a maximum capacity of 50 participants. The Science Festivity 2008 took place on 23-25 April; the theme was “Technology”. This year, the Science Festivity had twenty nine partners including public and private schools, associations, companies, universities, institutions, as well as international representatives.


Egypt Science and Engineering Fair (ESEF)

Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. The Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific minds, enabling them to submit their work to judging by doctoral level scientists—and providing the opportunity to compete for nearly 4 million USD in prizes and scholarships. The BA hosted ESEF (Egypt Science and Engineering Fair) on 30 March 2008, organized to prepare students for opportunities of participation, competing, and winning.


The Electronic Resources Center, sharing the knowlegde!

An innovative project, produced by the BA Planetarium Science Center, with the collaboration of the "Volontaires Régionaux pour la Coopération PACA / AFVP", Mr. Maxime Sanson and Ms. Justine Bonne, the Electronic Resources Center (ERC) has been launched to serve as an effective tool of collaboration among the global science communication community.


3rd FLL in Egypt Competition Finale

The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) in Egypt 2007 was organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center, under the auspices of Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, the Egyptian Minister of Education.


Sky of Alexandria, the inauguration

On 29 December 2007, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Arab Academy for Science and Technology celebrated the launch of the "Sky of Alexandria" Planetarium show, the first to be produced entirely in the Middle East. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Mr. Gamal Mokhtar, Director of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology attended the celebration at the BA Planetarium Science Center where the show was played for the first time at the BA Planetarium in presence of the Heads of Departments in both institutions.


Bibliotheca Alexandrina celebrates Women in Science, 23-24 October 2007

To highlight the importance of the role of women, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina celebrated its fifth anniversary by organizing the “Women in Science” conference taking place 23-24 October 2007, to which the Library invited eminent persons and practicing scientists from all over the world to discuss various pertinent and pressing issues.


The Power of the Sun

The Power of the Sun is an interesting, rich, one-hour documentary that was presented to the BA by the eminent Nobel Laureate, Professor Walter Kohn. The film is available now, with English narration and Arabic subtitles, at the "Listen and Discover" auditorium, part of the BA ALEXploratorium.


Golden Age of Islam, the festivity

On 21 October 2007, the PSC organized a festivity to celebrate the launch of the French documentary "Golden Age of Islam" with Arabic narration. The event included a series of lectures given by specialists and speakers that discussed the various themes presented in the movie.
