"Evidence for public policy: data applications of human impacts of disasters and civil conflicts"

Natural disasters including climate extremes and civil conflicts are an increasing priority on global, regional and national policy. Phenomena such as floods and storms which bring significant economic and human losses are recognized now as part of the SDG and by the IPCC as key development processes. Civil conflicts, forced migration, refugee management are also issues with widening implications. Global databases such as EMDAT and CEDAT along with other sources such as satellite provide rich sources of data for priority setting. My presentation will cover policy applications of micro and macro data, the importance of international data collaborations and evidence for policy.
