result was that in 1991, the number of reported typhoid cases dropped by 94%.
Notice there was not an attempt to identify and treat chronic carriers
of typhoid.
There was no vaccination campaign.
Instead there was widespread public awareness, and sewage was no longer
used to irrigate fresh fruit and vegetables.
