Although ID is the main cause of anemia, other conditions such
as malaria or chronic diseases can play a role in the causal path.
Anemia related to Iron Deficiency represents the end point of different
physiological changes, so a discussion about iron physiology and
metabolism is essential in order to understand IDA. Different approaches have been applied in order to assess Iron Deficiency anemia, which will be discussed in the present lecture, as well as approaches to prevent or control ID in individuals and populations. Finally, recomended readings are sugested to expand the topics discussed in the present lecture. |
