The VOC (Volatile
Organic Compounds) evaporation rate of the droplets may be assessed using a
simple theoretical model based on the general Fick's law. The key parameters
of the model are: the diffusion coefficient, the VOC fraction within
droplets, the VOC vapor pressure and the droplets size.
Despite of the model limitations, the results obtained indicate that
there is little difference bewteen the two resins. In both droplets, the
volatile fraction tends to evaporate very quickly (10-1 – 10-2
s). This suggest that the particles inhaled by the workers contains mainly
resin and that the remaining solvent does not plays a major role in the
acute effects observed. |
