I am an optimist. I believe that the pace of scientific advances will be maintained in the future, and that values will continue to shift in favour of essential changes towards global ecosystem sustainability. I don’t know whether those who follow us will ever reach the ultimate summit of Halfdan Mahler’s "Health for All" but I am confident that they will continue to climb towards it. Thereby hangs the tale to be told by someone standing here a hundred years from now, at the 200th anniversary of the Usher Institute.
