This slide illustrates the success
that can be achieved when comprehensive diagnosis of combination endodontic
periodontal lesions are treated together.
Failure to diagnose or treat either disease process will result in failure of treatment. Patients are informed that due to the millions of microscopic lateral canals, bacteria are allowed into the root structure and can infect the pulp. This phenomenon confirmed by electron microscope studies results in clinical root sensitivity, pulp abscess and periapical abscess. The etiology of the endodontic and the periodontal lesions are anaerobic infections. Waiting this long to perform proper treatment for your patients can be avoided in a large majority of cases by adding proper bacteriologic screening used in a routine manner along with bitewings, periodontal charting, and visual oral examination. |
