Traditionally, public health departments provide environmental health services, maternal and child health services and communicable diseases. Because the leading causes of death include chronic diseases, contemporary lphd’s might include a department to address chronic illnesses and injuries. A lphd may also provide emergency medical services as well. Larger public health departments may have an epidemiologist and/or biostatisticians on staff. |
