Here’s an
example. Suppose you were a therapist in a long-term care facility who was charged with
determining which residents should receive intervention because they are at increased risk
of falling. How would you decide how to screen the patients? You could consult the
literature, but you may also want to assess the accuracy yourself. -What are you diagnosing - Fall risk across some defined period of time (one year) -What are the possible predictors - What do you think might be important? What does the literature support? (age, co-morbidity, balance tests, etc.) -How will you determine if the patient has fallen over one year? (incident reports, patient-report?) -In order to get accurate information you must commit to assessing everyone. |
