Following a disaster or an evolving humanitarian crisis, the first response of potential field volunteers is to just want to go, not realizing that this is usually not possible, unless they have been suitably screened, prepared and training on a standby basis. In fact, following many disasters and humanitarian crises, extraneous volunteers can simply get in the way or simply add to the problem. |
