Killed or inactivated vaccines, toxoids and
polysaccharides can generally be given during pregnancy, as can oral polio
vaccine
Live vaccines are generally contraindicated because of largely theoretical
risks to the baby. However risk and benefits need to be examined in some
individual cases. Yellow fever vaccination may be considered after the 6th
month of pregnancy, when the risk of exposure is deemed greater than the
risk to the fetus. Pregnant women should be advised not to travel to areas
where there is a risk of exposure to yellow fever. (WHO, 2005)
