Without legislative involvement by public health practitioners, programs can
easily be lost in the political shuffle. Legislative advocacy should be an
integral part of every health agency. Practitioners should also know that when
it comes to shaping policy, nothing is more effective than a well-educated,
unified voice.
Practitioners need to be involved in the legislative process in many ways,
not only to assure the kind and amount of resources allocated for health
education programs, but to have an impact on the larger policy framework that
defines all of public health.
