I am a cognitive
psychologist turned epidemiologist. I began to research the epidemiology of
Type 1 diabetes. In 1983 Dr. Tajima came for training in Pittsburgh. As a
result we began a voyage that would lead several of us many times around the
world. She said something simple, but had profound ramifications. She said
“Ron we do not see much type I diabetes in Tokyo”. We figured it out that
the number of children developing diabetes in Tokyo was about the same as
Pittsburgh, despite the fact that Tokyo was 20 times larger. |
