In addition to type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance is associated with
the development of a broad spectrum of clinical conditions. These
include hypertension, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, decreased
fibrinolytic activity, impaired glucose tolerance, acanthosis nigricans,
hyperuricemia, polycystic
ovary disease, and obesity.
