In endemic areas
annual vaccination using the local subtypes is essential to prevent transmission. In such
endemic areas disease cannot be prevented by slaughter because of the large number of
migrant carrier stock, particularly sheep, eg in S.America, and recovered animals eg in
India/Jordan.
