Studying the effects of smoking and of reducing one's smoking on birth outcomes has been hindered because we lack the tools needed to accurately measure tobacco exposure. Self report is used most often, but women may report inaccurately for a variety of reasons. In addition, exposure may be affected by the brand of cigarette smoked, the percent of the cigarette actually smoked, and the depth of inhalation. |
