Who is
eligible for CRASH? - All head injured adults who are not fully conscious (GCS 14 or less), who are within 8-hours of injury - The fundamental eligibility criterion is the responsible doctor’s “- uncertainty” whether or not to treat with corticosteroids - If the doctor is reasonably certain that there is a clear indication for corticosteroids (such as patients who also have an acute spinal cord injury) then the patient should not be randomised - Likewise, if the doctor is reasonably certain that there is a clear contraindication to corticosteroids then the patient should not be randomised - All patients for whom the responsible doctor is substantially uncertain whether or not to give corticosteroids are eligible for randomisation |
