Chinese medical institutes located in Asia surprisingly amount to fewer than fifty, with expectedly the majority located in China. Other institutes in Asia are located noticeably in Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and China’s Special Administrative Region Hong Kong. By and large, these institutes in Asia are each equipped with more sophisticated facilities and have more students enrolling than those institutes located in the Western countries.

In China, the institutes better known to the Westerners perhaps are Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Beijing university has compiled the English-Chinese Textbook Series in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for college undergraduates worldwide. More than one thousand international students have graduated from this university since 1957, the year it began to enroll foreign students.

Located in China's largest city, the Shanghai university is one of the leading institutions in the world for TCM education, clinical training, and research. It has two excellent educational and training centers which are the forefront of making TCM available for the benefit of all mankind.

The Nanjing university is perhaps best known as the birthplace of the earliest scholars of TCM, and a crucial base for reforming TCM education from the traditional master-to-disciple model to the collegial teaching system.
