If you think
about infections that affect body cavity structures, like the inside of a tube or the
inside of your heart and can cause abscesses, frequently, at least historically, we have
treated those kinds of conditions with intravenous antibiotics. However, in this day of
cost-saving there has been an enormous move to out-patient management. In fact, if you
look at trends over time in the treatment of PID, you’ll certainly find that there has
been a tremendous move from in-patient management to out-patient management beginning with
the complete and utter absence of any data whatsoever.
