Roundels are used by sultans and princes since the 6th till the 9th century AD on their architectures and tools as well as on their coins. Roundels were used also by princes as to signify their jobs and from the 9th century Ad, they were used as symbol for different military branches.
This roundel is attributed to Sultan Qaitbay and is made of ceramic in white and blue color under a transparent glaze. It is divided into three sections inside a white space free of any decoration and surrounded by black lines. The inscription is carried out in three lines surrounded by a white color on a blue background and by a floral decoration in the form of leaves and half palm fans in white color on a blue background.
