LYM Session - 19 April 2009

Our meeting started with Mrs. Layla Abdel Hady welcoming the attendees and the new comers. She asked them how had they learnt about our program and meetings and announced that the next meeting will be the last before we stop for the final exams.

The first presentation was entitled “ Drug Addiction“ by Sara Alaa. She discussed the different reasons behind drug addiction either related to the individual, family or  society. She spoke about the social, economic and sanitary consequences of drug addiction. Then, she classified drugs according to their sources and effects. She also explained the difference between physical and psychological addiction and how to identify a drug addict. Finally, she showed different sanctions in the Egyptian law related to drug addiction.

Then, we had a presentation about “The Next Generation for Mobile Communication“ presented by Zeyad Tarek. He showed a movie about the evolution of mobile phones since 1985 till now and how their features developed and how they are expected to develop in the coming years. Then, he talked about the importance of mobile phones in our daily life and explained how the ordinary phone works and introduced some terminologies used to describe the efficiency of wireless networks like data rate, multiple access, frequency band and spectrum efficiency. Then, he explained how mobiles developed from the first generation till the third one and the further requirements that lead to the evolution of the fourth generation. Finally, he showed a movie about the future of wireless communication and new innovations like mobile digital magazines, virtual reality communication and digital secretaries and how they will make our lives much more easy and smooth.
