Teach For Lebanon (TFL) is a Lebanese Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) launched in 2008. The Organization’s aim is to eliminate educational inequality while fostering youth leadership and promoting civic engagement.
Support to Higher Education
Teach For Lebanon recruits, trains, places and supports newly graduated Lebanese university students in remote, disadvantaged schools where they work for two years, receiving a stipend and housing.
Upon completion of their two-year work in the field, TFL Fellows are eligible for scholarships for Master’s level work at the American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, Haigazian University and University of Balamand.
Type of Support
Teach For Lebanon recruits top fresh Lebanese university graduates and provides them with training to become full time teachers (fellows). After being accepted (only 17 out of 280 applicants were accepted for the year 2012), fellows attend a six-week intensive summer institute at which they are prepared for classroom teaching via attending workshops, working in a summer school, and the like. Afterwards TFL places them in remote, disadvantaged schools to work for two years, receiving a stipend and housing.
Fellows are then observed in classrooms twice every month, and they meet monthly with TFL staff. The staff measure the impact of the fellows on the students' achievements and the fellows' development in leadership skills.
Duration of Support
Two years.
