KIT Dossier Natural resource management & land tenure

Last update: Wednesday 14 December 2011

Local governance of natural resources for livelihoods

The aim of the KIT programme on rural decentralization and local governance is to further decentralization and local governance in support of sustainable social and economic development. A specific objective is to develop knowledge on the way local governance institutions relate to, and are involved in land governance, land use, and decision-making on the management of natural resources. Specific focus of this programme:

  • Analysis of the impact of democratic decentralization on natural resource management and local governance institutions; in particular in francophone countries in West-Africa;
  • Local governance of land and land administration;
  • Land tenure and gender

KIT is also a partner of LANDac, the IS Academy on Land Governance for Equitable and Sustainable Development. LANDac is a partnership between several Dutch organisations and their Southern partners involved in development-related research, policy and practice. The partners share a concern for increasing land inequality and new land-related conflicts. How can land governance – rules and practices on access to land – be used to promote equitable and sustainable development in the Global South?
