This case study looks specifically at the integration (horizontalization) of the family planning component into the other WIN/MCHI components. As a result, access to client-centered counseling has increased, unplanned pregnancies have decreased, and the abortion rate has declined.

Rwanda has managed to overcome many of the critical bottlenecks to make progress on maternal health. Maternal mortality rates have fallen steeply. More women give birth at health centres, they attend at least one antenatal consultation during their pregnancy, modern contraceptive use quadrupled.
