To combat high infant mortality, the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF developed the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) treatment algorithms. The paper describes e-IMCI, a system for administering the IMCI protocol electronically using a PDA in rural Tanzania.

This investigation on using short message services (SMSs) to encourage HIV counseling and testing (HCT), shows that motivational SMSs have more influence in the uptake of HCT than informational SMSs. Thus, motivational SMSs can encourage people to take health-related actions. (Abstract only)
