The Young People’s Library collections are increasing yearly and reached over 14,600 volumes by December, 2005 at the open shelves and closed stacks. The YP library relocates the collection according to the adaptations made at the main library.
The YP collection includes a selective collection of books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, online database, and audiovisual materials which are appropriate for young adults; and a selection of Internet links are also available.
The collection consists of more than 6 languages. Mainly in Arabic and English; however other languages are also available such as French, Spanish, German, and Turkish .
The young people ’s collection is classified using DDC System (Dewey Decimal Classification ). All fields of knowledge are available in the Young People’s library such as (000) Generalities, (100) Philosophy and Psychology , (200) Religions , (300) Social Sciences , (400) Languages , (500) Natural Sciences and Mathematics , (600) Technology Applied Sciences , (700) Arts and Sports , (800) Literature , (900) Geography and History . (Maybe you should make sure that this list matches the other one that we did. I don’t know if they are the exact same titles as the one in the main library or not.)
Books and Reference Materials
The young adults’ collection contains a wide variety of printed materials which include: periodicals, newspapers as well as reference books, series collection to meet the various needs and interests of young adults in the ages between 12 to 16 years. The collection is accessible through the BA catalog.
The Young People’s Library reference materials includes a selection of encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases and audiovisual materials.
Fiction
Popular and current fiction, hardback and paperback, with an emphasis on popular authors. Genres include mystery, science fiction, fantasy fiction, horror and adventure fiction. All the fiction collection may be checked out for 2 weeks.
Non-fiction
The Juvenile and Young adult nonfiction collection is maintained and developed to meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of students aged 12 to 16 years. This collection contains books on all general areas of knowledge, focusing on those subjects of interest to young people and for use in completing school curriculum. A strong emphasis is placed on these areas: history, sports, science, animals, art, social science, encyclopedias and biographies.
