HIV cannot cause an epidemic when transmitted through the heterosexual
route (as it is the case in Africa where homosexuality and blood transfusions
are rare) if there are no concurring factors.
Sporadic isolated cases might have arisen for extended periods of
time, but they were not detected, being diagnosed as tuberculosis,
diarrhea etc..
Knowledge about the origin and rise of the epidemic therfore
lies on an analysis of the concurring factors.
