A schematic representation of chemical nature of mercury emission
problems is shown in the table. The chlor-alkali industry has appeared to be the most important of the point dischargers of mercury to waters. Mercury used in agriculture and catalysis as of major importance, however small the quantity used, since mercury emissions might involve alkylmercury compounds. Mercury emissions in mining, refining operations and electrical industry also warrant urgent attention at this time. |
