Type 2
Diabetes has become a major health problem worldwide.
At present there are about 125 million people affected by
the disease globally, while within the USA there are
about 15 million people with diabetes. It has been
projected that by the year 2010, the number of persons
with diabetes will double although the increases in the
USA will be modest. Most of the increase will result from
changing demographic characteristics, especially in
developing countries such as India and China. Over 90% of
the cases of diabetes worldwide are the form known as
Type 2 diabetes.
