Iron Requierments (RDA) |
RDA for Iron vary widely among different biological situations, from
6 mg/day during the first 6 months of life to 30 mg/day during
pregnancy. As it was mentioned pregnancy, lactation and childbearing
age in women are the periods with higher iron requirements. RDA is defined as the levels of intake of essential nutrients (Iron in this case) that, on the basis of scientific knowledge, are judged by the Food and Nutrition Board to be adequate to meet the known nutrient needs of practically all healthy persons. It is important to understand that RDAs exceed the actual requirements of most individuals, constituting a safe ty factor. RDA have been established for healthy people who daily consume diets containing meat and ascorbate, so diets with lower amount of enhacers imply higher requirements. |
