A tornado watch is an advisory that the weather conditions are conducive to the development of a tornado. A tornado warning is an advisory that an actual tornado has been sighted. Early warning is important as it allows the public to seek shelter in protected areas. Most often this will be the basement of a home, or a culvert if driving along a road.
