Sexual activity was
to be restricted only to married couples, for, as Graham perceived, after
being married for awhile, the couples were no longer sexually excited by one
another, thus precluding the likelihood of their indulging in these
hazardous practices. Though these ideas may seem silly today, Graham and his
converts to Christian Physiology had a large following among the general
public, thus making Grahamism one of the most popular health fads in
ante-bellum America. |
