Next we tackled decision support
Based on information from several studies in a
variety of practices, we realized that our providers were not
meeting standard of care. The UPMC and academic leadership mandated
the use of ADA standards for system-wide quality improvement.
Provided a benchmark. In order to facilitate guideline
adherence, particularly for our primary care practices, Dr. Solano,
the medical director of the community practices and our
endocrinologist, Dr. Mary Korytkowski began a broad based education
campaign that included regional seminars, system programs,
introducing self-management concepts and certified educators and
teaching their office staff.
Providers were also given timely feedback about their
patients and de-identified reports were provided to demonstrate
where their practice was as compared to their peers.
