According to the document “Review of Findings on Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP): Physical, Emotional, and Health-Related Quality of Life, Healthcare Utilizaiton and Costs,” the CDSMP improves participants’ physical and emotional health and their overall perceived health-related quality of life. In addition, the research points to moderate reductions in healthcare expenditures and pays for itself in 1 year.
The document summarizing these findings is available at http://patienteducation.stanford.edu/research/Review_ Findings_CDSMP_Outcomes1 8 08.pdf.
The CDSMP has been implemented in many countries across the world and research showing positive benefits has been completed in many countries. Thus, the CDSMP is widely considered an evidence-based intervention improving positive self-management of chronic conditions and diseases. People with chronic diseases and conditions who complete this workshop are likely to become more activated and engaged in their health care and realize better health outcomes. |
