1.Testing
blood sugars are an important part of managing diabetes.
2.Depending
on the patient and their resources, blood sugars can be done in a
variety of patterns and times during the day. Some take their glucose
levels several times a day, some only every other day as resources
permit.
3.It
is important to include at least some which are 2 hours post prandial as
the blood sugar after eating is more closely linked to cardiovascular
disease.
4.Encourage
the patient to record their numbers in a log book or on paper so that
they can discuss the patterns with their provider.
5.Use
the blood glucose level as a way to tell if the current treatment plan
of managing the diabetes is working.
