The present study was a multicentre prospective,
randomized, study of children who serially presented to emergency department with head
injury.
A total of 9,460 children were seen
between 1996 and 2000, and it sample was divided in two groups: Phase I (1996-98) with
4,690 patients and Phase II (1999-2000) with 4,770 patients. Each child was seen by
medical staff and evaluated during acute care. A Standardized database sheet subject was
completed to include general demographics, medical status, Glasgow Coma Score and
Paediatrics Score, neuroradiology study. Indicators consisted in frequency counts and
tabulations. On follow-up each subject was given a Glasgow Outcome Score and asked set
standardized questions considered detect functional level and quality of life. The
baseline information and subsequent outcome score were compared and evaluated. |
