A right will
have an accompanying duty. In return for a safe workplace, some reasonable job security and fair reward then the worker is expected to do a “fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay.” If management wish to maintain high levels of productivity and quality of output then they will need to consider the welfare and well being of the workforce. There will always be tension in the manager/worker relationship but it can be a creative tension in which both sides respect each other and where growth can occur. The health of the individual worker and the wellbeing of the workforce are the concerns of both union and management. As a partnership they can enhance safety, reduce sickness and improve conditions. |
