Physical activity and obesity interact in the development of Type
2 diabetes. A study of college alumni of University of
Pennsylvania shows that the higher the BMI, the higher
the incidence of diabetes at each level of physical
activity. Conversely, the higher the level of physical
activity, the lower the risk of developing diabetes at
any BMI level. There is an interaction between the extent
of obesity(BMI) and extent of physical activity such that
persons with high BMI and low activity have the highest
incidence of diabetes, and vice versa.
