Effective
chemotherapy has rendered TB a rare disease in industrialized countries. Junior doctors
and specialists may lack clinical experience in TB, the number of TB clinics has fallen
dramatically, and the priority of TB control has diminished over the last decennia. Potential risks are: if TB remains undetected, miliary TB and / or meningitis can occur leading to increased morbidity; relaxation of TB control and prevention programs may contribute to an outbreak of TB from a sector of, to the general, population. TB epidemics from MDR-TB should not be allowed to occur. |
