For adults,
tuberculosis becomes one of three major causes of disease burden in
developing countries. Tuberculosis imposes a major health burden on a
country’s resources. WHO (1999a) estimated that TB in 1998 accounted for 7 %
of all disability adjusted life years (DALYs). DALY is a quantitative
indicator of burden of disease that reflects the total amount of healthy
life lost, to all causes, whether from premature mortality or from some
degree of disability during a period of time (Homedes, 1995). |
