We know that the passengers in their 20s will increase the chance that a crash will be fatal to teenage drivers. However, we do not know whether passengers in their 20s will increase or decrease the risk of being involved in a crash for teenage drivers. This information is essential for forming passenger restriction laws, since most of the passenger restrictions in the United States have exceptions for passengers older than 21. Also, the studies will help us to explain the role of alcohol in the relationship between teenage driver crashes and why carrying passengers will increase the crash risk for teenage drivers will be needed.
