As with many other complex diseases,
there is no single genetic or environmental factor that can fully
account for the risk of alcoholism. The development of such complex
behavioral and other medical disorders likely depends upon the
specific genetic factors interacting with one another, the
interaction of multiple environmental risk factors, and the
interaction of genetic and environmental factors.
The combinations of genetic and environmental factors may
produce syndromes of varying intensity.
