The action of ACTOS results in enhancement of
insulin action and subsequent reductions in insulin secretion. ACTOS helps
normalize glucose levels by increasing peripheral glucose utilization and
decreasing hepatic glucose production. These effects are mediated by
regulating the transcription of genes that encode polypeptides involved in
carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism. ACTOS Package Insert, February 2000. Sonnenberg GE, Kotchen TA. Curr Opin Nephrol Hypertens. 1998;7:551-555. |
