The foundation of this
work is the WHO DiaMond Project.
DiaMond stands for ‘Diabetes Mondiale’, which is French for
diabetes worldwide. DiaMond
is based on the development of standardized T1D incidence registries
in more than 60 countries across the world.
From these registries, investigators have studied the
incidence, risk factors and mortality associated with T1D.
Because the registries were based on a standard methodology,
the results obtained from these populations are directly comparable.
Other objectives of DiaMond are to evaluate health care and
the economics of T1D and to conduct international training programs
on the epidemiology of diabetes.
