New social constructs are playing ‘catch-up’ with technology and scientific discovery.

And this forms the platform for the argument that the role of educator is a strong

candidate, perhaps even stronger and more influential than governments, to help our

communities to responsibly exploit the opportunities presented by sciences and

technology. Historically the educator is at the center of knowledge sharing.

The Library of Alexandria, within this multi-disciplinary scientific environment, is

implementing technology to offer to the community new ways to access available

knowledge. And the fact that the Library of Alexandria made the decision to become

totally virtual and completely based on technology puts it as the first library

organization not depending on a collection of physical books.
