An interesting point needs to be made on the swnw's contribution to early antisepsis.  This was achieved, certainly by accident, with the use of copper salts.  This is typical Egyptian eye makeup using blue‑green copper pig­ment.  The swnw also used a similar mixture on wounds.  This mixture, called wadj, when tested under modern laboratory conditions, proves to be an excellent antibacterial agent. The Greeks later used this approach in developing verdigris, 1 of their more effective salves.
